Taming the Ego {poem}
Taming the ego can be a perilous task, But a necessary one If I want to unmask The truth deep within me from the rules and the lies, The beliefs I’ve bought into that just cover my eyes. Keep my head in the sand, And keep me from going Into the truth of the matter, Into my inner knowing.
Taming the ego Is a delicate dance Of hearing my “shoulds”, Gently pushing my “cant’s”, Softly expanding my limits. Stretch myself to the edges By dismantling beliefs And a lifetime of pledges. I hear my self-talk. Don’t feed into the drama. Ramp up my self-care; Heal layers of old trauma.
If I move too abrasively My ego could get flared, Off on a fear tangent ‘Til I’m frozen and scared. So I feel my emotions Then follow the clues, Catch myself mesmerized By the ego’s “old news”. I notice my triggers Then trace back to the source. Unravel the bullshit To free my true force.
Taming the ego Is an absolute must, If I choose to embody My soul’s purpose and trust. So I must get to know This part of myself, If I hope to breathe life Into the dreams on my shelf. I must nurture my ego, Help it feel safe and warm. While stretching my limits, That’s how I’ll transform.
